iDevices iPhone Jailbreak Unlock — 16 May 2011
Redsn0w Vs. Sn0wbreeze

There are a number of different tools to use when trying to jailbreak your iDevices. Among the most trusted are Redsn0w and Sn0wbreeze. While both will offer you the ability to jailbreak your iDevice, they do so in slightly different ways. Depending on how you use your phone and your future plans for the device one may be more attractive than the other.

Redsn0w is typically considered to be easier to use with a much friendlier interface. However, it does require the iDevice to be updated to the most recent iOS, or to have a version of Redsn0w for the iOS you are running.

When updating the iOS the user runs the risk of updating the baseband. This can lead to difficulties when attempting to unlock the phone down the road. If you don’t plan to use the device on a different carrier then the one the device was purchased on then this shouldn’t be a problem. Though it should be noted that unlocked iPhone can be resold for much more than locked phones.

Sn0wbreeze retains the baseband by creating a custom firmware that is backed up before the jailbreak process is initiated. This makes it easier to downgrade the iDevice should it be necessary. It should be noted that the jailbreak process is a bit more involved when using Sn0wbreeze.

As with most things the decision comes down to user preference. Though it should be noted that if you don’t plan to unlock you iPhone or iPad Redsn0w is probably the way to go. The easy of use and simple interface makes it more attractive for most users, especially those that are new to the jailbreaking scene.
