iGame Of The Week: Defender Of The Crown

Manomio, one of the leading developers for porting classic titles to the iOS, is making the iPhone and iPad a hub for classic games. Manomio latest gift to iOS gamers is the classic Defender Of The Crown, this title was originally released in 1986 on the Commodore Amiga by Cinemaware.

The game is set in 1149, after the king’s assassination and no heir to the throne, leaving England in utter chaos. Encouraged by Robin of Locksley, you assemble a Saxon army and set off to defeat your Norman rivals and conquer the land.

Cinemaware gave you four characters to choose from, each with different strengths and weaknesses. The title also varies up the gameplay with different events to try and keep the game fresh. which is interesting considering the title is 25 years old. You can choose to conquer a kingdom, raid an enemy’s castle, build up your army, or scout enemy territories for a future attack, or event hold a jousting tournament.

Originally Defender Of The Crown was a mouse-based point and click strategy game, and with the iOS release, Manomio created a emulation system to allow the title to run on the iOS called the iAmiga. The title controls like a track-pad for swipe and tap controls with you finger acting like the mouse.

The title runs smooth and looks great on the screen of my iPad. This title brings back memories of playing the classic titles in my younger years. I also enjoyed playing the title on iPad and see the Amiga logo, I recommend playing the iPad, the screen adds to the experience.

This game is for fans of the original title as well as strategy fans. Everyone go check out Defender Of The Crown, its available in the iTunes App Store for $2.99. The title is compatible with the iPhone/iPod Touch and iPad with iOS 4.1 or later
